Three different BDC turnover rates circulate in this business with NADA’s name on them. 52%. 68%. 65 to 80%. They appear in decks, in webinars, and in vendor one-pagers.
NADA publishes 46% total dealership turnover and roughly 80% for salespeople. That is what the Workforce Study says.
How this happens
Somebody needs a number for a slide. A real study exists nearby. The number gets rounded toward whatever the slide needed and the citation travels with it, and after enough repetitions it is a fact everybody knows and nobody has read.
It is not usually malice. It is the path of least resistance in a market where a statistic is a credibility prop rather than a claim anybody expects to be checked.
Say more than half and stay out of the argument.
The practical version
If you are on a lot and the turnover point matters, say more than half. It is true, it is defensible, and it does not hand a sharp GM an opening to spend the rest of the meeting correcting you.
The underlying argument does not need the number to be precise. It needs it to be true.
